First Impressions & Room Layout
We arrived in the early evening after flying Air Canada with kids from Nanaimo to Toronto. Check-in was smooth, and since the room was ready early, they let us in a few hours before the designated check in time. The lobby felt fresh and modern, with clean lines and neutral tones. You could tell the property had been recently updated. Everything looked polished but not flashy.

Our room was a king suite, and it worked fine as I was traveling alone with my teen son. The layout was practical: one large bed, a small sitting area, a desk, and a full-sized fridge. There was enough space to move around without feeling cramped, and the bed was genuinely comfortable. My tween immediately claimed the window side and started setting up his tech station—thankfully, we’d packed well thanks to this carry-on packing list for teenagers.
Bathroom & Amenities
The bathroom was fairly clean. But most importantly, it was functional, with a walk-in shower and decent water pressure. Towels were soft, and the toiletries were Marriott’s standard: nothing fancy, but reliable. There was no bathtub, which might matter for families with younger kids.

The Wi-Fi was free for Marriott Bonvoy members. And I can assure you, it was fast enough for streaming and schoolwork. There’s also a small gym and an indoor pool, both of which we used during our stay.
Breakfast Lounge & Food Options
Breakfast is included, and it’s served in a bright lounge area near the lobby. The setup is buffet-style, with hot and cold options: scrambled eggs, sausage, waffles, cereal, yogurt, and fruit. There’s also a coffee and tea station nearby.

It’s not gourmet, but it’s solid, and my tween had no complaints (and that’s saying a lot). This was the one area where I feel like the hotel could’ve done a better job. While seating was plentiful, on both mornings of our stay, the buffet was a little bit sparse. The staff were having a hard time keeping things clean and well-stocked. Nonethless, we were able to scrounge enough morning food for my hungry tween. I opted to grab myself a cold brew coffee at a nearby Starbucks each morning. And yes, iced coffee is available in Canada, despite what some viral rumors might suggest.
Location & Transit Access
One of the biggest reasons we chose the TownPlace Suites Toronto Oakville was its location. Oakville is far enough from downtown Toronto to avoid the noise and traffic, but close enough to make day trips easy. The hotel is near the Bronte GO Transit station, which made getting into the city straightforward. We took the train in the morning and were at Union Station in under 40 minutes.
There’s also free parking, which is a huge perk if you’re driving in from out of town. In fact, the parking was free at the hotel, and free at the nearby GO Transit station. I actually couldn’t believe it at first and had to ask around to make sure I wasn’t missing something. If you’re planning to explore beyond Toronto, this guide to towns and cities near Toronto is full of great day-trip ideas.
Family-Friendliness
TownPlace Suites really does cater to families. The staff were friendly and patient, especially the ones working at the front desk. And the overall vibe was relaxed. We saw other families with kids at breakfast and in the lobby, and it never felt too formal or business-heavy.
There’s no kids’ play area or themed rooms, but for a clean, quiet place to sleep and recharge, it worked perfectly.
The Downsides
No hotel is perfect, and there were a few things worth noting:
- Limited reviews online: This made it harder to know what to expect, though it also meant fewer crowds.
- No bathtub: Might be a dealbreaker for families with toddlers. Honestly, it didn’t matter much for us…my tween was happy to have a quick shower before bed each night as he was exhausted from city visiting.
- Pool hours: The indoor pool closes fairly early, so plan ahead if your kids want to swim. We arrived on a day where there appeared to be a lot of guests who were attending a sports tournament. This meant that the pool was super busy, and the water seemed a little bit cloudy and dirty. We waited until the second day to go for a dip.
- No on-site restaurant: You’ll need to drive to nearby spots for lunch or dinner. There’s not much in walking distance from TownPlace Suites Oakville Toronto. But there is a nice outdoor patio and barbecue area at the back of the hotel, in case you want to buy groceries and dine in. Not to mention a full sized fridge in the room!
